The City of Deltona is currently hiring for Firefighter/EMT (Paramedic preferred). This position requires FireTEAM testing and a valid NTN CPAT. All testing through National Testing Network (NTN) must be completed by January 31, 2014.
Salary Information: FF/EMT $11.76/hr (Annualized $34,245.12)
FF/Paramedic $14.01/hr (Annualized $40,797.12) - After clearing as a Lead Paramedic with Agency

Academy Certification:
Florida certification as a Firefighter/EMT; Paramedic preferred. Florida State Firefighter I and II; Current CPR certification; Current ACLS certification (Paramedic); EVOC/CEVO/Emergency Driving certification; FL Driver?s License, Copies of certifications must be submitted with employment application.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Not all inclusive):
Responds to emergencies with a fire company or rescue unit, and answering medical emergencies as part of an engine company as an Advanced Life Support unit. Removes, extracts, and rescues persons from danger. Recognizes acute symptoms requiring immediate care, and assists in administering life saving rescue procedures to injured or afflicted persons. Connects hose to hydrants and pumps; joins hose sections and connects nozzles to hose; connects to standpipes and sprinkler systems where applicable; enters burning buildings with or without hose lines; operates nozzles and sprays water, foam, and/or other specialized control agents as applicable. Operates hand fire extinguishers & similar equipment in extinguishing fires; ventilates burning buildings to remove smoke/gases. Performs salvage operations including sweeping water, removing debris, and placing smoke ejectors. Interacts with, and delivers information to the public during emergency situations. Makes daily inspections of apparatus & equipment and notifies supervisor of defects. Performs cleaning and maintenance tasks in and about assigned station. Aids in the mitigation of other emergencies as directed by supervisor. Attends instructional sessions in firefighting methods, equipment operation, rescue procedures, hazardous materials mitigation, and related subjects. Recognizes hazardous material situations; makes identification of unknown substances through the use of specialized testing equipment; sets up decontamination procedures; assists agencies in the removal/disposal of hazardous material. Conducts station tours; provides public information. Performs other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the essential functions of this job some tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of sitting, standing and/or walking. Emergency tasks and training involve the performance of physically demanding work, which may involve some combination of running, climbing or jumping, and may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy and/or heavy objects, materials and/or persons (20-150 pounds). Must be able to wear protective clothing and equipment up to 60 pounds and work in extremely high temperatures and toxic atmospheres. In responding to critical incidents, the incumbent may be exposed to fire, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic substances, excessive noise, temperature extremes, and dampness/humidity. The incumbent may be exposed to possible bodily injury from falling from high, exposed places; moving mechanical parts of equipment, tools, and machinery.

Condition of hire: The successful candidate agrees to establish and maintain a professional image during employment with the City of Deltona.
